Fractions - Session 1: Studying mathematics teaching with a focus on fractions

Part 3: Analyzing a video from a third-grade classroom

video of math teacher

Overview

This part uses video from a third-grade mathematics class to begin to explore core elements of elementary teaching: mathematics, student thinking, and teaching practice.

Video records from elementary classrooms create contexts for noticing and analyzing features of elementary mathematics instruction. Such records of practice provide opportunities to pay close attention to the mathematics and what students are thinking, to study teaching with detail, and to support claims with evidence from what actually happened.
