Fractions - Session 4: Using the number line

Part 4: Properties and conventions of the number line

video of math teacher

Overview

Representations, such as the number line, have properties and conventions associated with their construction and interpretation. In teaching, it is important to be able to make the properties and conventions of representations explicit to students because they help students interpret and use representations. Such properties and conventions are, in fact, part of the mathematics content that students need to learn.

The part focuses on articulating key properties and conventions of the number line.
