Fractions - Session 6: Using public recording space

Part 5: A process for planning for and learning from the use of public recording space

Overview

While teachers learn from their practice all the time, there are ways of engaging in and reflecting on teaching that can enhance learning and improve subsequent instruction.

This part introduces a process for planning for and learning from the use of public recording space. It is a process that can be integrated into everyday teaching practice. The process focuses on:

  • The use of representations in teaching
  • Encouraging and noticing student participation in learning
  • Attending to the mathematics available for learning

Key Points

A three-part process for learning from—and improving— the use of public recording space:

  1. Develop a plan for public recording linked to a lesson plan;
  2. Enact the plan and capture images of public recording space; and
  3. Reflect on the use of public recording space using records of practice (in this case, images).
