Fractions - Session 9: Investigating strategies for comparing fractions

Part 6: Wrap up

Session Summary

This session explored different strategies for comparing fractions as a way to:

  • Unpack fundamental mathematical ideas;
  • Consider and classify how students compare fractions; and
  • Work on teaching practices related to the use of representations.

The next session is the culminating session of the module. It brings together work on mathematics, teaching, student thinking, and learning from practice. The session will be an opportunity to revisit teaching practices including connecting representations, narrating the use of representations, and using public recording space. Further, the session will attend more deliberately to what teachers do to help individual students represent their ideas, while supporting the understanding of the class as a whole.
