Overview

The mathematical practices articulated in the Common Core State Standards are at the heart of the problem solving work that is the focus of this module. This module is designed to deepen understanding of the content in the Common Core State Standards, specifically, the mathematical practices, and to support the ability to teach children such content. This part provides an overview of the components in the Common Core State Standards and connections between the work in the module and the Common Core State Standards.

The content of the Common Core State Standards includes knowledge and skills within particular mathematics strands, as well as mathematical practices that are essential across mathematical strands. The focal mathematical practices in this module have strong connections to mathematical processes articulated in previous standards efforts.
