Overview

This part focuses on debriefing the experience in the video workshops. Debriefing in this module is done to support learning about the process of video workshop and to encourage sharing of insights into teaching practices, student thinking, and mathematical practices like reasoning. Knowing and being able to use the video workshop process to learn about teaching is an important outcome of the professional development series.

Key Points

Three key points to consider:

  • Understanding the process: Sharing the context of the video is important in understanding the teaching
  • Analyzing teaching and learning: Focus questions can make particular aspects of student reasoning and teaching moves more noticeable and a robust part of discussions with colleagues.
  • Building productive norms: Grounding comments and observations in specific instances in the video supports productive conversation about the teaching.
