Reasoning-and-explanation - Session 7: Capitalizing on students’ explanations and engaging in a video workshop

Part 6: Wrap up

Session Summary

This session focused on how teachers can capitalize on the explanations that students share in ways that make the engagement collective and constructive. The third video workshop experience provided new opportunities to learn from specific instances of teaching and to develop greater familiarity with the video workshop process.

Session 8 will extend work on making and justifying conjectures by considering this type of reasoning within a different mathematics strand. In addition, there will be more opportunities to appraise students’ mathematical explanations and think about teaching moves that could be made in response to students’ explanations.
