Cultural Connections: East Asian Music, Media, and Munchies


Do you like K-Pop? Or watching anime? Are you addicted to Asian dramas? Students will learn about life in the East Asian countries of Japan, South Korea, China, and Taiwan through their languages and traditional and popular media, music, and food. Cultural ambassadors within the community will share personal knowledge about their respective countries. Students will reflect on their own identities and roles as global citizens while thinking of ways to use course topics to build bridges with people from around the world.

  • Week 1: Reflect on Cultural Identities
  • Week 2: Explore Japan – watch anime, draw manga, listen to J-pop, make and eat okonomiyaki
  • Week 3: Explore Korea – watch K-dramas, listen to K-pop, make and eat kimbap
  • Week 4: Explore China and Taiwan – watch C-dramas, listen to C-pop, make and drink boba milk tea
  • Week 5: Prepare and present our own East Asian Cultural Fair

IMPORTANT: Notify the office of any food sensitivities or dietary restrictions, as sampling food may be an optional part of this class.
