ANIMALS IN ART
\n<\/span><\/strong>No kids ever drew, painted, and sculpted as much as these keiki. Everyone perfected a parrot complete with tail feathers in watercolor. We worked on painting our sculptures from the last two weeks, a task that seems never ending. Please send a small box for sculptures to come home in. Please continue to send a smock. Working in 3 hour blocks, the haumana have begun to truly embrace the studio mentality. Rejoicing in creation and conversation. They were also tasked to write their own ghost stories for our ending program original play. \n<\/span><\/span><\/strong>Students learned all about the Solar System and it’s planets this week! Students became junior researchers and researched an object in our Solar System. MINECRAFT: A VIRTUAL LEARNING ADVENTURE
\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong>In groups, students decided on a landmark to build in Minecraft. They created a presentation to share facts about it to the class. ROBOTICS WITH LEGO WEDO
\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong>On Monday, students were given an introductory building project, Milo, the Science Rover. For Tuesday, students were challenged to build a Race Car in a test of speed. Next they built a Pull Robot to test what balanced and unbalanced forces. On Thursday we shook things up with a lesson on earthquakes.\u00a0 Students were tasked to build robust structures that could withstand an earthquake simulator. Finally on Friday we used robotics to learn about a metamorphosis by creating a frog that transitions from Young to Adult.<\/span><\/p>\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/crdg.hawaii.edu\/summerprograms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/SP-2024_0019_Robo-III-VEX.png?resize=63%2C69&ssl=1\")
ROBOTICS WITH VEX
\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong>This week all students transitioned to VEX EXP equipment. Students regrouped into teams of 4 for the rest of the program. The task this week was to build a robot that could score\u00a0 by getting rings and\/or balls into two baskets, a lower basket and a higher basket. They used different colored balls and rings that are weighed by different points. At the end of the week the groups competed using their robots to score as many points as possible in autonomous and teleop period.<\/p>\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/crdg.hawaii.edu\/summerprograms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/SP-2024_0029_Science-Olympics.png?resize=70%2C77&ssl=1\")
SCIENCE OLYMPICS<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/strong>This week the students learned about flying objects. They learned how to make 3 different kinds of paper airplanes. Some of the designs got complex, but they didn’t give up and tried their best to finish the job. We then went to the MPB to test and fly the different models and rated them on different categories. Next up, they have been learning about rockets and started off by making their own paper rocket.
