ANIMALS IN ART
\n<\/strong>This week, we focused on community-building and learning about textures. We got to manipulate textures on paper and even go on a scavenger hunt to find different textures around the classroom (texture rubbing scavenger hunt). \n<\/strong>This week in Creative Programming, we have set up our Scratch emails and accounts, started introducing important coding topics such as events and if-then statements, and started our journey through Scratch coding! \nThis week we went over fossils, fossils, and more fossils! Every student has started their learning journals with some notes and vocabulary pages, but we’ve also been busy creating pop out inserts to help us remember everything we’ve learned. We made a mini timeline to help us visualize how long ago the dinosaurs lived, and we made a step by step insert about the fossilization process. We’ve been busy using our new knowledge to solve puzzles. PASSPORT TO ART
\n<\/span>This week, students began their journey around the world by exploring artistic traditions from Asia. They created Japanese ukiyo-e inspired prints while learning about The Great Wave Off Kanagawa<\/em> and practicing printmaking techniques with brayers and barens. Students also practiced Chinese calligraphy using water brushes and designed Chinese porcelain-inspired plates featuring meaningful symbols and patterns. Through Indian Rangoli art, students explored symmetry and design while creating colorful salt artwork. To conclude the week, students created Korean-inspired norigae charms and learned about traditional Korean art and clothing. ROBOTICS WITH VEX<\/strong>
\nWe began our class by creating name tents as a getting to know you activity. After that we worked on a few puzzles to help us develop habits in problem solving, communicating, and working in groups. The second part of each day was dedicated to working on our Freeze tag robots. SLEUTH ACADEMY FOR JR. DETECTIVES
\n<\/strong>This week we focused on crime scene basics & types of evidence. They learned how to identify different types of evidence (physical, biological, trace, circumstantial, etc.) found at a crime scene. They also discussed proper techniques and procedures for documenting a crime scene so that the evidence (and the investigator) are not contaminated or damaged. STORYBOOK TO STAGE<\/span>
\nThis week students were introduced to readers theater.
\nAfter reading the script for \u201cI Hate My Hat,\u201d students made unique headband hats that they wore for their performances on Tuesday.\u00a0 They performed for classmates and our photographer. Next they started learning \u201cThe Witch and the Broomstick \u201c script and created headbands of these characters.
\nThroughout the week, we also played drama class games to get comfortable being silly with each other and to remember to project our voices

UNDERSEA ECOLOGY
\n<\/strong>Students have started to learn about ecosystems, abiotic factors, and seaweed. They also examined seaweed using magnifying glasses and microscopes. To further learn about seaweed and the non-living components of an ecosystem, we did crafts including a sensory tube, a tide simulator, and seaweed prints.<\/p>\n
