ANIMALS IN ART
\n<\/strong>Our focus this week was on animal habitats (forest, ocean, and desert).
\nOur artists used mixed media to make memorable crafts on various animal habitats. We also explored other art projects like puppets and paper plate aquariums.
\nWe were also able to leave the studio and visit the zoo. We were able to see the actual animals in their various habitats. \nWeek 3 has been jam packed with activities to help our little paleontologists study the past and present. We covered the ancient Earth, the environment dinosaurs lived in, adaptations that they had to help them survive, and even discussed paleoart and how we can figure what dinosaurs looked like. We’ve been piecing together the past and recreating dinosaur images in both paper layers and 3D. MINECRAFT: A VIRTUAL LEARNING ADVENTURE

PASSPORT TO ART
\n<\/span>This week, students traveled to Europe through art by exploring artistic traditions from the United Kingdom, Greece, and Italy. Students created stained glass-inspired artwork while learning how stained glass has been used to tell stories, sculpted terracotta pinch pots inspired by ancient Greek pottery, and designed metal reliefs after learning about Renaissance art and the techniques artists use to create texture and depth. \nStudents worked on developing their 3 iterations of the freeze tag rules. Then we developed new rules for soccer. Using these new rules we played our first game of soccer. SLEUTH ACADEMY FOR JR. DETECTIVES
\n<\/strong>For week 3, our theme was “Impression Evidence.”
\nThe detectives learned to identify different types of impression evidence such as bite marks, footprints, and tire tracks. They learned the types of materials that are best for these impressions and how investigators collect these evidence.\u00a0 They finished the mock crime scene investigation that was started the previous week. We had a guest speaker from the Defense POW\/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), an agency of the Department of Defense. We learned about their ongoing mission to bring home POW and MIA remains. \nIn our third week, our young storytellers explored fairytales.\u00a0 First, we used finger puppets to re-enact fairytales, made-up our own original stories using fairytale characters, and created original skits with animal finger puppets. Next, we were introduced to hand puppets.
