Geometric-measurement - Session 10: Connecting dimensions of measurement

Part 2: Debriefing anecdotal notes workshop

video of math teacher

Overview

This part focuses on debriefing experiences of engaging in the anecdotal notes workshop as a means to analyze and improve one’s own practice. It includes a focus on what has been learned about collecting anecdotal notes focused on the Learning Trajectory levels as the basis for learning from practice with colleagues.

Key Points

  • An understanding of the Learning Trajectories can help target and guide instruction; being clear about the understandings that underlie geometric measurement can support the selection and use of tasks that help students develop these understandings
  • Discussing anecdotal notes with colleagues can support learning both about student thinking and about the process of taking anecdotal notes in ways that can be useful for informing instruction
