Geometric-measurement - Session 2: Length Learning Trajectory – Developmental progression
Part 2: Learning trajectories - Early levels of the developmental progression
Overview
This part begins work on understanding the learning trajectory for length measurement by introducing the early levels of students’ developmental progression that have been identified through research on students’ thinking.
Key Points
The levels of the learning trajectory are designed to be a resource for teachers to use when observing students; however, being able to characterize students’ thinking is more important than being able to remember the names of each level.
While a student’s behavior on a task will reflect a particular level, this does not mean that the level is the limit of the student’s thinking.
