Overview

Session 5 focused on the Learning Trajectory for area measurement and introduced the levels of the developmental progression for learning area. This session starts with a brief review of these levels, using video of students’ work on area measurement tasks.

This session includes

• Using the learning from practice protocol for the anecdotal notes workshop to analyze notes about students’ work on area assessments
• Examining instructional activities for teaching area, including examples along the Learning Trajectory as well as activities from curriculum materials
• Reviewing the mathematics of area measurement
