Overview

This part introduces instructional tasks that are designed to help students develop knowledge and skill relevant to later levels of the area Learning Trajectory. This part includes discussion about key measurement concepts that the tasks are designed to teach.

Key Points

  • “Good” instructional tasks can be approached by students who are at multiple levels of the Learning Trajectory. Teachers can also modify tasks to make them accessible and productive for students at various levels.
  • Before students learn the “length x width” formula for computing area, it is important for them to have experiences that support them in understanding the spatial structuring of arrays.
