Geometric-measurement - Session 9: Volume Learning Trajectory – Instructional tasks and teaching strategies

Part 2: Anecdotal notes workshop

Overview

This part provides another opportunity to use the learning from practice protocol to engage in an anecdotal notes workshop with a small group of colleagues.

Key Points

  • Anecdotal notes workshops can provide a context for working with colleagues to connect Learning Trajectory levels to instructional tasks and to interpret the levels of thinking students are demonstrating
  • Taking notes in a structured format can make them easier to interpret later
  • Using formative assessment to guide instruction has been shown to be more effective than other efforts to improve student learning (e.g., a new curriculum, professional development). Anecdotal notes workshops can help provide guidance about what to do with information from formative assessments.
