CULINARY KIDS: COOKING ADVENTURE
This week, the culinary students explored the flavorful world of Japanese cuisine. The young chefs created some popular and delicious dishes, such as somen salad, assorted musubis, and Daifuku mochi. Students got creative with making Daifuku mochi, filling the inside of the mochi with their own creative concoctions!
FULL STEAM AHEAD
This week in class, we delved into the fascinating world of natural disasters. Our students had a blast learning about volcanoes, where they had the opportunity to create their own mini volcanoes, make predictions on explosive mixtures, and even build fences to protect imaginary homes. Additionally, we explored the topic of tornadoes, with students designing homes that could withstand debris and strong winds. I’m thrilled to share that we also had a fantastic field trip to the Children’s Discovery Center. It was a day filled with exploration and wonder, much like our classroom experiences.
HNS: EXPLORERS
This week we continued to learn about insects. Students learned about caterpillars and butterflies. They learned how to draw and color a realistic butterfly. We have them displayed in class. They also learned about the life cycle, and today we focused on decomposers. They even went on a decomposition scavenger hunt around campus.
HNS: OBSERVERS
This week we visited Lyon Arboretum where students identified various seeds and how they are dispersed. They have also been working hard on a ladybug craft, learning about the ladybug lifecycle and continuing our study of insects, arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods.
HNS: RESEARCHERS
This week we got to learn about native and invasive stream fish. We also got to head down to the stream to participate in removing the invasive fish from the stream to help our native fish thrive.
LET’S PLAY SPORTS
This week, we played flag football and soccer. We also went to the UH football field to watch the Hawaii football team practice.
LITTLE JOURNALISTS
This week the Little Journalists refined their writing skills and practiced selecting the perfect pictures for their stories.
MINECRAFT: CREATING AND CODING
STEM AND HISTORY WEEK
Replicating Landmarks; In groups, students selected a landmark from around the world to build in Minecraft. Students then created a slideshow presentation sharing facts about the landmark and showcasing their build.
A Case for Biodiversity; In groups, students selected a biome/ecosystem to study (that exists in both Minecraft and real life). Each student picked an animal or plant to study and present to the class. They had to share how their choice is a benefit to people in real life and in Minecraft.
Build your Future! Students created a collaborative google slides showcasing their builds in Minecraft that depicted their future/dream house, car, job, etc.
