This week the Explorers learned all about the ocean. We started off the week exploring the diversity of the sea by looking at native, introduced, and invasive species. We had a chance to visit the Waikiki Aquarium and see all of the different plants and animals that make up our ocean system. We also researched some of the issues affecting our oceans such as marine debris. We had our own beach clean-up at Sherwoods Beach Park where we collected a lot of microplastics that washed up onto the sand. The students had a lot of fun doing outdoor activities and even created their own dance for the beach clean-up. Finally, the students had a chance to cook by up-cycling invasive algae to make their own mini jello aquariums.
