CREATOR SPACE
This week we began designing and making components of our desk pet project, made our first Shrinky-Dink keychains, and began brainstorming designs for our up-cycled cardboard lanterns.

CULINARY KIDS: COOKING ADVENTURE
Building on the skills from the previous week, students explored Mexican culture and cuisine. The theme for this week’s cooking class was “Mexican Fiesta!” Students learned about popular street foods and prepared some delicious treats such as: Chicken Quesadillas, Walking Tacos, Cheesecake Taquitos, and refreshing Mango Aqua Fresca.

FULL STEAM AHEAD
During this week, our students engaged in a series of group challenges that truly showcased their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Students had the opportunity to participate in various activities, such as building foil boats to hold the most marbles, creating paper chains with limited materials, constructing spaghetti and marshmallow towers, and even designing catapults to launch marshmallows. It was truly inspiring to witness their collaboration and determination throughout these tasks.

HNS: EXPLORERS
This week the students learned about the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal, and learned how to draw and paint a Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. We went on a field trip to the Waikiki Aquarium on Tuesday, where the students enjoyed seeing all of the fish and animals that live in the ocean. We also learned all about insects, went on an insect walk to observe and count insects, and on Friday we visited the UH Insect Museum.

HNS: OBSERVERS
This week we are studying arthropods (insects, arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods). They created a butterfly lifecycle craft, learned about the insect body parts, and hunted for bugs outside. Ask your child what bugs they found! Our field trips were to the Waikiki Aquarium, UH Insect Museum, and UH Japanese Garden.

HNS: RESEARCHERS
This week we got to explore the aquarium and see native and non native species found in Hawaii. Also we walked over to the UH Insect Museum to see various species of insects from around the world.

LET’S PLAY SPORTS
This week, the students played baseball and kickball.

LITTLE JOURNALISTS
In week 2, the Little Journalists focused on collaborative writing with their features on some of our other Summer Programs classes. Many of the students also tried their hand at op/ed writing, and everyone practiced their camera-work.

MINECRAFT: CREATING AND CODING
It’s Arts Week!
This week the students completed in a build battle. They proposed topics and built structures with a time limit. For their next project, students created their own short stories. They were challenged to visualize their stories through Minecraft and present it to the class.

MUSICAL PERFORMANCE: SHOOTING STARS
This week we are diving head first into our blocking and choreography! We are still holding auditions for those who could not attend last week, and we are excited to move forward!

SCIENCE FUN FAIR
This week Junior Scientists learned about the physics of a rollercoaster! We focused on Newton’s laws of motion and how that exists in a rollercoaster. Junior Scientists also began construction on their 2nd design project — creating their very own rollercoaster!
