ANIMALS IN ART
Students enjoyed painting their many sea life sculptures as they leaned into their imagination to create a mini world. Students developed good studio work habits and are self managing their own clay and paint choices. We also continued to develop our draft portfolio, drawing our sea animals before sculpting them.
CREATIVE PROGRAMMING WITH SCRATCH
This week, students accelerated from Scratch to Code.org, and became familiar with languages such as Java, JavaScript, and Python through interactive, engaging, and fun lessons and games.
CREATOR SPACE ADVANCED
This week we shrank and coated our first two Shrinky-Dinks with resin, continued working on our 6×6 canvases, and began work on designing our cardboard lanterns.
DRAMA: JUST ACT—ACTING GYM
This week we continue to work on cold reads but learning to break down the script into sub-sections of similar subject matter in order to better understand what is happening in the scene, as well as learn how to memorize lines easier.
DUNGEONS, DRAGONS, AND TABLE TOP RPGS
This week we practiced the four basic types of scenarios the players will experience during the game. They each practiced a scenario where they have to have conversations, use sneaking, combat, and identifying and evading traps. Then we actually got into parties and started our campaigns. The kids will play in these campaigns as a continued story the rest of the summer.
JOURNEY TO THE STARS
This week Junior Scientists focused on learning all about the stars in our universe and particularly about our closest star; our Sun in our own Solar System. We learned about the life cycle of a star and students continued to learn about the mysteries of the universe, such as how a black hole occurs?
We also took a walking trip on Wednesday to Manoa Japanese Garden at the UH. The students loved it!
MINECRAFT: A VIRTUAL LEARNING ADVENTURE
Art week!!
This week the students completed in exciting build battles. They were challenged to complete builds by themselves and in groups. It was very cool to see everyone’s variation of the topics: a treehouse and a garden.
ROBOTICS WITH LEGO WEDO
ROBOTICS WITH VEX
This week students are focusing on line following and coding their robots to play a song. Recently we celebrated Brennon’s birthday and many of the robots decorated themselves festively and played Happy Birthday songs.
SCIENCE OLYMPICS
This week the students have been learning about launchers. They were able to learn how to make a simple and complex catapult, and also learn how to make slingshots. In groups the students created slingshot games for the whole class to play and participate in.
