We’re sorry! It was a challenge getting all the photos edited and posted this short week. We will continue to post photos to our galleries. Please check back later. Thank you!
AN ADVENTURE IN DESIGN
Our students have learned the basics of graphic design and are now ready to share it with their parents. This week we completed our informational poster projects and are working on our invitations for Open House. Using their understanding of composition and font hierarchy, our class has designed invitations in groups, promoting our class presentations of all the work we’ve created through summer programs. We hope to see you on Thursday, June 10th, to see our creative projects.
ANIMALS IN ART
This week we’ve been painting, painting, and more painting. The students recreated Banksy’s famous “Love is in the Bin” piece as well as created murals to put in the brick walls they made. We also gathered enough cardboard to start our animal head pieces! Thank you for all your donations!
Next week we will be working with clay and making pinch pots.
CREATIVE PROGRAMMING WITH SCRATCH
CREATOR SPACE ADVANCED
This week we finished our mixed media canvases, worked on our first relief printmaking blocks, assembled shrinky-dink pendants for necklaces and bracelets, and started organizing work to display for open house.
DUNGEONS, DRAGONS, AND TABLE TOP RPGS
We continued the campaigns and traded off DM duties to new students.
JOURNEY TO THE STARS
This week we explored all of the inner planets (Mercery, Venus, Earth and Mars), and we started to build our solar system mobiles.
MINECRAFT: A VIRTUAL LEARNING ADVENTURE
The main focus for this week was TEAM WORK!
Students finally presented their research presentations on biomes from last week to the class. Next they worked on building bridges to fit the appropriate situations; bridge over water, railroad bridge, etc.
Finally, we prepared for next week’s UH ESPORTS fieldtrip by trying Minecraft ESPORTS (build battles)!
MUSICAL PERFORMANCE: SHOOTING STARS
This week we said goodbye to one of our Stars and forged ahead on preparation for our fish performance!
ROBOTICS WITH LEGO WEDO
On Monday (6/30), students created a Lego maze, developing spatial thinking and problem solving by manually navigating a piece through their maze. On Tuesday (7/1), students created Lego patterns, strengthening math concepts such as sequencing and symmetry. On Wednesday (7/3), students created moving animals and experimented with different surfaces their animal could walk on. On Thursday (7/3), students created pixel artwork and practiced skills such as patterns, symmetry, and learning about basic grid coordinates.
ROBOTICS WITH VEX
This week we went to Kalani High School and got a tour of their workshop to see their high school robotics program. They also passed out flyers for their Kalani Robotics Academy. It runs every school break, and there are 4 academies to choose from! We also had our final days in preparing our robots for our competition next week.
SCIENCE OLYMPICS
This week we were challenged to design and build an elevator with a pulley. We also built a marble run with turns, loops and jumps.
