AM HNS Explorers Week 5

*We are still editing photos from this week and will continue to add to the photo galleries. Please check back for more pictures.  Thank you!*

CREATOR SPACE
We tied up all the loose ends to our projects this week! It was great being able to meet you at open house.

CULINARY KIDS: COOKING ADVENTURE
For the final week of culinary class, favorite local dishes were made, such as a variety of mini musubis, Guri Guri ice cream, and fried rice. Students also learned how to be resourceful by using left over ingredients to make simple sweet treats like Haupia and chocolate fudge. We hope the students were able to acquire some basic culinary skills and will continue their creativity in the kitchen and explore new recipes.

FULL STEAM AHEAD
Our students have been busy wrapping up their roller coaster projects using recycled materials. They came up with some truly innovative ideas! In our last project, the students worked on creating solar ovens to make delicious s’mores. Despite a little wind mishap that caused some ovens to tip over, all of their solar ovens successfully melted the chocolate. It was a fun and tasty learning experience for everyone involved! Teaching these young minds about science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics has been a pleasure. I truly believe that this class has sparked a passion for STEAM in them, and I can already envision some of them pursuing careers as future scientists, engineers, artists, mathematicians, and technologists.

HNS: EXPLORERS

HNS: OBSERVERS
Our field trip to Makapu’u was a huge success! We found hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, rock crabs, sea urchins, brittle stars and young reef fish. The students had a great time and were very well behaved. We wrapped up our nature studies this week by creating a diorama of the tidepools and learning about the marine mammals found in Hawai’i (Hawaiian Monk Seals, Spinner Dolphin and Humpback Whales). I have enjoyed working with all the children these past five weeks and hope they have a wonderful rest-of-the-summer!

HNS: RESEARCHERS
Our adventures took us to the tide pool this week. As we wrap up our exploration of Hawaii, we have learned to learn together, make memories and learn a little about what Hawaii has in nature. It has been a summer of fun and adventure.

LET’S PLAY SPORTS

LITTLE JOURNALISTS
During our last week, the Little Journalists worked on our final newsletter, while preparing for Thursday’s Open House. Every student covering our Spirit Week events practiced their camera skills in preparation for all of the pictures we’d be featuring. We hope you enjoy our work!

MINECRAFT: CREATING AND CODING
Students continued to work on their Final Project (a class town)… It is looking amazing. Students each built at least one structure each within the town. When they felt satisfied with their contributions to the class town, they were able to “free-play” with their classmates.

MUSICAL PERFORMANCE: SHOOTING STARS
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our showcase. The students worked very hard to prepare for their big event and were so excited to see so many people in the audience to support them.

SCIENCE FUN FAIR
This week, our junior scientists went on a field trip to the Honolulu Zoo, made slime and oobleck, and even tested the concept of magnetism in their cereal!
