STEM: Science Olympics Build Bridges [Week 3]

Students in the STEM: Science Olympics class started off their week learning about the physics of a straw tower. They learned that triangle shaped bases are the sturdiest because the weight of the tower is evenly distributed. They used the remainder of their week to learn about different types of bridges that are used in the modern world and applied what they learned when they built their very own popsicle stick bridges and tested their strength. The students applied what they learned once more when they built their structures out of marshmallows and toothpicks, giving them a taste of the process that engineers and architects use when designing a building or structure
