PM VEX Week 4

*We are still editing photos from this week and will continue to add to the photo galleries. Please check back for more pictures.  Thank you!*

ANIMALS IN ART
We had a blast drawing and painting sea turtles, and creating our dioramas of sculptures for the upcoming open house. We will be taking our clipboards and painting outside throughout our last week.

CREATIVE PROGRAMMING WITH SCRATCH
This week, students are grouped together and designed their own video games and animations!

CREATOR SPACE ADVANCED
We did tie dye shirts and paired shrinky dink accessories, continued working on our lanterns, and started painting canvases for our soap resist paintings.

DRAMA: JUST ACT—ACTING GYM
This week we are in rehearsals for out performance night on July 11th. The students are close to being off book for their individual scenes (Sabrina and Guzelle, It’s a Dog’s Death; Deena and Aimee, Stepmom; and Lisa and Sara, The Deal). But also did rehearsals for the play, Are You There.

DUNGEONS, DRAGONS, AND TABLE TOP RPGS
We rearranged the parties this week and introduced some new game masters. We had several students try to run encounters and develop story lines.

JOURNEY TO THE STARS
This week Junior Scientists learned all about the objects in the Solar System. From that, we hosted a planetary fashion show! Students created their planet or object cut out outfit, walked down the runway while sharing ample facts about what they learned about their planet! It was super fun! We then learned all about the phases of the moon as students used Oreo cookies to demonstrate the phases.

MINECRAFT: A VIRTUAL LEARNING ADVENTURE
Students began working on the Final Project in the class utilizing skills and lessons they learned through Minecraft. Students tasked with creating their own “city” together with each student creating at least one structure of their own.

ROBOTICS WITH LEGO WEDO
We started the week learning about Plants & Pollinators by building and programming a pollination model. The students learned about different pollinators and their role in pollinating flowers. Then it was Drop and Rescue. They built and programmed a rescue helicopter to learn about hazards and how a rescue helicopter can help. On Wednesday we focused on Sort to Recycle by constructing a Sorting Truck. Finally, on Friday the topic was Prevent Flooding by creating a floodgate to study the damage flooding can cause and how floodgates are used.

ROBOTICS WITH VEX
This week student focused on the autonomous portion of their robot for the upcoming tournament. We’ve hit a few roadblocks and the tournament has been moved to next week Monday to give students more time to adequately come up with a plan for autonomous. Many of the groups have created modifications to their robot to be able to reach all goals.

SCIENCE OLYMPICS
Students were challenged to make a golf ball super tower with just newspaper and tape, and then were challenged to build a golf ball catching contraption which was a little more complex, but the students had great ideas!
