The facilitator overview video (below) will support you in learning more about the main mathematical ideas developed in early module sessions. These ideas include:
- Understanding how equivalence (of fractions) can be represented and used
- Representing fractions
- Defining fractions
Preparing for engagement |
Before you engage in this overview, please do the following:
-
Download the ¾ representation sheet from Session 2, Part
- Carefully examine representations b, c, and g, and determine if each of the representations could show ¾.
-
Print “Possible Instances of Equivalence” document from Session 1, Part 6
- Consider whether each of the four examples shown is an example of equivalence in mathematics.

How this overview supports the facilitator of the module |
This facilitator overview is designed to provide opportunities for you to:
- Engage in focused work on specific content that is worked on across sessions early in the module. This will provide you with an understanding of the foundation of the development/progression of mathematics in the module.
- Enhance the resources you can draw on when unpacking mathematical ideas in discussions with participants.
- Make decisions about what mathematical work/discussions are key at particular points in the module and which could be saved for later consideration. This enables you to focus participants on particular elements of content, knowing that other mathematics will be supported in later learning opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: THESE OVERVIEW VIDEOS WERE DEVELOPED FROM INTERACTIONS BETWEEN MODULE DESIGNERS AND FACILITATORS PILOTING THE MODULES WITH TEACHERS.
