Screencast 3: Teaching practice of the module

This facilitator overview video (below) will support you in learning more about the main mathematical ideas developed in the later module sessions. These ideas include:

  • Supporting teachers’ skills in being explicit about the use of a representation, a practice we call “narrating the use of a representation”
  • Helping teachers to make connections when using representations.
Preparing for engagement Before you engage in this overview, please do the following:
  • Go to Session 5, part 4. Read the “narrating the construction and use of a representation” slide then watch the videos in this part.”
  • Watch the video in Session 10, part 6. Anticipate what participants will notice about:
    • the connections the teacher makes in the summary
    • the key mathematical points in the summary
How this overview supports the facilitator of the module This facilitator overview is designed to provide opportunities for you to:
  • Understand of the main teaching skills that participants will develop and practice during the module.
  • Harness examples from the participants’ comments and teaching that relate to these practices.
  • Think about how different activities from the module bring out different facets of these teaching practices.
