HNS: EXPLORERS
This week, HNS Explorers learned about the world’s major biomes and explored how climate, plants, and animals interact to create unique ecosystems. Students began creating their own biome dioramas, designing habitats and selecting plants and animals that belong in each environment while applying their knowledge of ecosystems and animal adaptations. They also visited the Waikīkī Aquarium, where they observed a variety of Hawaiian marine life, identified adaptations that help ocean animals survive, and learned about coral reefs, marine ecosystems, and the importance of protecting Hawaiʻi’s oceans.

Another group shot on location, the basketball courts, to put together a short video on why basketball is the best. Our third group visited the Let’s Dance class to film for their short documentary on dance.

MINECRAFT: CREATING AND CODING
This week students did several brain teasers to reinforce communication and problem solving skills. They had amazing discussion on whether if you would get more wet running or walking in the rain. They showcased their reasoning and communication skills to a high degree.

Then they were asked to create a rating system that could be used to rate students’ build challenges. They have created the largest pyramid, a villager with a job not available in vanilla Minecraft, their favorite sport, and a moment in history.
